Chair Massage

The kata, or choreography, I practice is based on a Japanese massage technique known as Amma, which is roughly 5,000 years old.

In the last century, Amma was institutionalized as a profession for the blind. The technique involves manipulation of specific points on the body which correspond to meridian lines – energy circuits through which energy flows throughout the body. Working these points stimulates the nervous system as well as the circulatory system, thus allowing for energy to flow freely throughout the body. The end result is relief of tensions and a toning of the system in general.

Used as a preventive approach on a weekly basis, a 15-30 minute session on the chair can become a useful tool for eliminating a surcharge of tensions which could eventually transform themselves into imbalances in the body.

The benefits of a 15-30 minute Amma massage on the chair:

  • Improves blood circulation
  • Releases tension
  • Helps reduce stresses of daily life
  • Helps improve sleep
  • Helps reinforce the immune system
  • Induces a state of wellbeing
  • Soothes painful joints
  • Sharpens mental acuity & concentration, enhancing productivity at work

Who can benefit from Amma chair massage?

  • Employers wishing to improve employee relations, by offering a tool for managing stress and decreasing absenteeism at work, thus improving overall employee satisfaction
  • Personnel who can profit from a healthy 15 minute break at work
  • As a complement to persons who are undergoing other therapies
  • Seniors with regard to their comfort and positioning on the chair
  • Children, who also have stresses and tensions in their lives
  • All those who wish to be proactive in maintaining fitness and good health
